The Future

I recently watched a show about the future of transportation, and the future of what will propel these vehicles. I summarized this show in one word. WOW! The many advancements in transportation technology was just absolutely mind boggling. Most of these technologies are already in place as well, some more than others. Of course, foreign countries are at the forefront of these technologies, and the US lags behind playing catch up as we usually do. But just to give you an idea of just a few items that were presented...

- Hydrogen fueled cars that emit close to zero toxins
- Cars that emit absolutely zero harmful emissions
- Cars infused with unlimited nanotechnology processing power that can make minor repairs all by themselves...no mechanic
needed
- Interconnected, networked vehicle communication. Vehicles that can "talk" to one another to guage each other's
technical makeup as well as logistics and avoid potentially hazardous situations. An air traffic control type system, only
without human involvement
- Cars that drive and park themselves
- Robotic cars that can think and act by themselves
- Self propelled cars that only use the air we breath as its sole propellant, releasing zero toxins in the air. With entire
engines costing around $100.
- Hydrogen filling stations powered by the sun that create its own hydrogen internally (already being used in Sweden)
- Hydrogen filling station lined highways (already being used in Sweden)
- Vehicles that can "see" the road and assist the driver in taking corrective action to avoid accidents. Even completely taking
control of the wheel, while in motion, itself if it detects the driver has become incapacitated.

All this may sound like space age stuff, because it is. And considering the fact that we are now very much in the space age, all of these advancements are very timely and soon to be commonplace, sooner than we think. Practicely all of the current technology now in place anywhere was also un-realistic at some point. Things completely commonplace now like the internet, email, cell phones, personal computers, wireless communication in any form, space travel, and robots performing human functions all used to be fantasies. I'm excited in the opportunities the future holds!
